Prince William Soccer (PWSI) reigns as Champion in recent regional All-Stars tournament
Prince William Soccer, Inc., aka PWSI, came home with 19 trophies from this past weekend’s regional All-Stars Soccer Tournament in Herndon, Virginia.
Second place in trophy count was Springfield South County Youth Club (SYC) and Vienna Youth Soccer, each bringing home 10 trophies apiece.
In the Champions category PWSI faced stiff competition from hometown competitors from Northern Virginia Soccer Club (NVSC), formerly Mid-County Soccer Club. PWSI teams went on to win 10 championship divisions, with NVSC winning 7 divisions.
Where PWSI pulled far ahead of all of its competitors was in the high number of Finalists, aka Second Place division winners.
PWSI had 9 teams place as Finalists; Vienna and SYC each followed behind PWSI with 5 division Finalist teams.
There were some division playoffs where PWSI teams even played other PWSI teams in competition for first and second place wins.

Some stats about PWSI and its Fall 2011 All-Stars program:
- 51 teams competed from ages U8-U19.
- 29 boys teams and 22 girls teams.
- 663 players went to tournament.
- Champions came from these divisions: U10G, U11B x2, U12G, U13B x2, U13G, U14B x2, U16B
- Finalists came from these divisions: U9B, U9G, U10B, U12B, U12G, U14B, U16G, U19G, U19G
- 94 players received financial assistance to make sure that all selected PWSI players went to tournament.
Unique to PWSI is that players have the ability to nominate themselves for selection. Coaches are not advised of how players are nominated. No tryouts are allowed. Coaches are limited as to how many players can come from their own team – no more than 1/2 of the roster.
All-Stars Tournament Coordinator Bill Golden says that none of this would be possible without the many volunteers from the community that come together to send this small army each season to compete in regional tournaments. Bill credits the PWSI club administration with being very supportive and working closely together to make All-Stars such a success each season. A special thank you goes to General Manager Mike Yeatts, PWSI Rec Coordinator Pat Howarth, and to Rob Cheshire, Operations and Communications Manager.
Behind the scenes keeping All-Stars moving forward once the player and coach selection process begins in mid-October was a group of volunteers that Bill claims kept him from going insane and making All-Stars a success: Bob McCauley, Jenise Mancini, Cheri Thomas, Brian Tin, Kenneth and Kevin Golden.
Below are some of the happy faces from this past weekend’s tournament.
